Boxing - #1 For Weight Loss!

Updated: Nov 3, 2021

Boxing is traditionally known as a combat sport and a martial art (yes, a marital art!). Over the years it has gained momentum worldwide, especially for those interested in achieving fitness goals. Boxing has the ability to create drastic improvements in a short amount of time compared to other disciplines of fitness. It's also a fun and interactive workout that challenges both the body and mind.

Here are 4 reasons why boxing is an essential tool for weight loss:

1. Boxing Is THE Ultimate Calorie Burner!

Boxing is a clear winner when it comes to burning calories. Studies show a typical boxing session can burn up to 1000 calories, when compared to typical cardio exercises such as walking (243 calories), jogging (398 calories) and running (544 calories), is a big leap ahead. Even against more intensive workouts such as Crossfit and Metafit it still comes out on top - read more on the article here.) Boxing also helps to create muscle mass which leads to an increase in the metabolic rate allowing the body to keep burning calories even after the workout.

Best of all it provides a break from the hours of repetitive/mundane grind on the treadmill or cross trainer!

2. It’s A FULL BODY Workout

In any given Boxing class, expect a workout that will get the whole body firing! There are many elements to Boxing, such as head movement, footwork, defence techniques (e.g. bobbing and weaving) and the application of power & speed. In order to perform the movements that make up Boxing it's a full body engagement, it may even work muscles that you didn't know existed!

3. Fun & Motivation

Boxing is cerebral (i.e. It fires up the brain for balance/timing/coordination and making quick decisions on the fly), therefore it's a natural motivator as dopamines triggers are released whenever nail the combination smoothly, or are able to land that perfect one two with precise footwork! Boxing is also a social sport and we pride the Wolves Den on cultivating an uplifting environment. When you join the pack you’ll be surrounded by supportive and like-minded individuals who will encourage you to strive to be the best version of yourself!

4. Train and Look Like An Athlete!

Boxing workouts target the fast twitch muscle fibres all throughout your body, which is often neglected in other forms of workouts. The development of these fast twitch muscles allows you to be a better athlete with more agility and explosiveness. One of the main attractions to use Boxing as a fitness tool is the ability to develop a killer physique whilst being able to improve your cardio, to your strength, power, endurance, and mobility! Many professional athletes across other disciplines cross train with Boxing for this very reason (e.g. Pro footballers, NFL/NBA/NHL etc). For the average fitness fan, Boxing for fitness will allow you to train and look like an athlete without stepping a foot into the ring! (although we can arrange that if you ever get the itch!)
